While the frost is hanging on the trees in Montville, the New Year of the trees is being celebrated in Israel , the holiday TuB’shevat On this holiday children all over Israel plant trees.
It is a little too cold for outdoor planting in Montville, so we are planting seeds inside instead.
Planting a tree in Israel through the JNF is a wonderful way to honor someone or pay tribute
To someone’s memory. A tradition on Tu B’shevat is to taste new fruits, especially fruits native to Israel, such as almonds, figs, and dates. At school we give the children Fig Newton’s for snack.
Tu B’Shevat is a reminder to us that it is our responsibility to care for the earth. Brainstorm with your child ways you can recycle and save energy in your home. Plant seeds at home- nothing grows faster than birdseed on top of a sponge in a pan of water. You can also plant parsley now and use it at your Passover Seder.
On another note… I know it is frosty and cold outside, but in a blink summer will be here.
Our Pine Brook Day Camp was so fabulous last year we are extending it to five days a week and eight weeks!!! You will be getting more information shortly!
